Mets Update

From the Daily News: The Mets continue to evaluate their coaches. While turnover is expected, a team insider believes that pitching coach Rick Peterson, who has two years left on his contract, will be safe despite rising discontent in the organization.

Yeah, I'd say so. This is the guy who wanted Victor Zambrano (10-17, 5.01 since the trade) over Scott Kazmir (35-29, 3.64 -- with the last-place Devil Rays) ("I can fix what's wrong with him in ten minutes").

Tom Glavine also appears to be gone. Probably a good idea. I have to think Glavine had the best run support of any pitcher in the league; his average strikeouts per nine innings dipped to four, and that's a very, very bad sign -- Dennis Martinez and Orel Hershiser both became has-beens the year after that happened. Good guy, good five years with the Mets, shame about the last game of the season, but it's time for all of us to move on.

I have a feeling the Mets are going to get a little worse before they get better. Alou and Shawn Green are both pretty much done, and LoDuca's probably not coming back, either. Omar Minaya's going to have to go after some guys who aren't a year or two away from their AARP cards.

Meanwhile, the Rockies are now up 2-0 in the NLDS.
